Hi Anika,

thanks for your message. I am glad the article was interesting for you. In order to enter UX Research, you do not need Design or Programming. There is people who do Design and there is people who do Programming. And there is you, who does Research. You don’t need to try to be better at those disciplines than the people who studied it. Be the best at what you studied: Understanding human behavior and cognition in an empirical way. You need to prove your value by setting up research studies, analyzing data, running well structured in-depth interviews and reporting results in an objective and evidence-based way.
If you had the experience that companies want people studying computer tech, then you applied at the wrong companies. They obviously have no clue was UX Research is. Try to find companies to refer to themselves as being “agile”, who have a design department and talk directly to those people. They will understand what you can bring to the table.
